Communications Toolkit: DACA Amicus Brief

The fate of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and the future of hundreds of thousands of Dreamers, is in limbo following the Fifth Circuit court’s decision to uphold Judge Hanen’s ruling declaring DACA unlawful. While the court preserved the program for current DACA recipients, uncertainty surrounds its long-term existence. On November 9, 2023, the Biden Administration and MALDEF filed appeals in the case in defense of DACA. For more information about the DACA case, check out MALDEF’s summary of the case timeline.

To leverage the voice of higher education institutions in this case and demonstrate the importance of DACA for students and campuses across the country, the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration coordinated with TheDream.US on an amicus brief signed by 168 higher education institutions in 32 states and Washington, D.C.

The Presidents’ Alliance, in collaboration with TheDream.US, created this communications toolkit to support the colleges and universities that signed onto this amicus brief or otherwise support the argument advanced in the brief and would like to publicize their endorsement.
