More than 50 advocacy organizations and think tanks urged the Biden administration to fulfill its promise to expand humanitarian immigration programs by allowing universities to sponsor refugees.
The organizations, led by the Niskanen Center, Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, and Every Campus a Refuge, pitched the idea in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and to acting Health and Human Services Secretary Norris Cochran.
The groups argued higher education institutions are ideal candidates to resettle refugees, who apply for humanitarian protections in the U.S. from abroad.
