Below, we share comments authored by Presidents’ Alliance members in response to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) proposed rule Fee Schedule and Changes to Certain Other Immigration Benefit Request Requirements (Docket No. USCIS-2019-0010). The deadline for institutions to submit comments was February 10, 2019, at 11:59pm est.
Before the deadline closed, the Presidents’ Alliance, in partnership with the Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education (CCCIE), created a template comment to assist institutions of higher education draft individual comments regarding the impact of the proposed fee schedule on students, families, prospective students, or other community members at your institution; your institution’s programs and mission; and higher education more broadly. Many of the comments below are based partly on this template.
You can read the actual text of the proposed rule here and a short analysis by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) here. You can also review this guide from CLINIC to learn more about the federal rulemaking process and how your comment fits into this broader process. Finally, we share CLINIC’s toolkit on the proposed fee schedule, which contains toplines, talking points, and sample social media posts.
