WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to the parliamentarian’s determination that a roadmap to citizenship for eight million undocumented immigrants can likely not be enacted through budget reconcilition, the Presidents’ Alliance recommitted to fighting for permanent status for immigrants, including immigrant students and alumni, and the immigrant essential workers who contribute daily to our campus communities.

Jose Magaña-Salgado, Director of Policy and Communications, stated: “The parliamenterian’s decision is obviously disappointing, including to myself, immigrants like my mother who would have qualified under the essential worker provisions, and the the 427k undocumented students enrolled in higher education–181k who are eligible for DACA. Our college and university presidents will continue to advocate for these students. Immigrant students provide immense and immeasurable contributions to our nation’s campuses and the very fabric of our nation. We will continue to explore all avenues to secure relief and fulfill the promise of the American dream for these aspiring Americans.”
