Washington D.C.— Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the appointment of the inaugural members of the Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council (HSAPC). The Presidents’ Alliance’s Executive Director, Miriam Feldblum, was appointed by Secretary Mayorkas to join the council, which includes representatives of the U.S. education community, law enforcement, and other groups, to provide recommendations to the DHS on key issues relating to education and academia.
“I am honored to have been selected to serve as a member of the Homeland Security Academic Partnership Council.” said Miriam Feldblum, Executive Director of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration. “I look forward to working alongside fellow council members and the Department of Homeland Security to advance the humane, fair, and equitable implementation of our immigration laws for immigrant, international, and refugee students.”
Formerly the Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council (HSAAC), the HSAPC was reestablished by DHS. This important venue will allow for members of the higher education community to share best practices, recommendations, and other policy change suggestions at the intersections of post-secondary education, immigration, and safety and security.
