Washington, DC – Today’s news from the Supreme Court underscores that Congress needs to act to address the status and futures of our Dreamer students, alumni, and community members. While we are gratified that the Court has not taken action on the government’s petition to hear the DACA cases at this time, Dreamers on our campuses and in our communities still face an urgent situation. Only Congress, acting in a bipartisan manner, can enact a permanent solution that protects DACA and provides Dreamers across the country a pathway to citizenship in a way that is reflective of our country’s values and interests. Now is also not the time for Dreamers’ lives to be held hostage in negotiations over a government shutdown. These are young people who have only known America as their home. Protecting Dreamers is the right thing to do, and in the best interests of our country.
About the President’s Alliance
The non-partisan Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration brings together college and university leaders committed to increasing public understanding of how immigration policies and practices impact our students, campuses and communities, supporting policies that create a welcoming environment for immigrant, undocumented and international students on our campuses, and identifying and sharing best practices. The Alliance is comprised of over 420 presidents and chancellors of public and private colleges and universities, enrolling over four million students in 41 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The Presidents’ Alliance invites college and university presidents and chancellors who endorse the principles in the Alliance’s Founding Statement to join the Alliance.
