Washington, D.C.—Today, the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, comprising approximately 500 presidents and chancellors of higher education institutions, joined 182 organizations in calling on the administration to implement a refugee ceiling of 95,000 for FY 2021. Miriam Feldblum, Executive Director of the Presidents’ Alliance stated: “During the last four years, we have witnessed the decimation of our refugee program, turning away vulnerable people from all corners of the world fleeing persecution. We are proud to join with partners to call for the restoration of the refugee ceiling to a level that matches our historic commitment to refugees. Welcoming refugees not only fulfills our country’s commitment to the principle of non-refoulement, but is a core value underpinning the openness and promise of our nation’s higher education institutions. Higher education in this country is filled with storied lives of refugees who came seeking safe haven and learning as students, scholars, and researchers. They transformed their lives and contributed immensely to our campuses, communities and nation.”
