Washington, D.C.—Today, Friday, June 28, 2019, the Supreme Court of the United States announced that it would hear the legal challenges against the rescission of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The Court decided to consolidate and hear the cases from California, New York, and Washington, D.C. during its fall term, likely issuing a decision in spring or by the end of June 2020.

Miriam Feldblum, Executive Director of the Presidents’ Alliance, stated, “Three separate federal district courts concluded that the administration terminated DACA unlawfully and inappropriately. We hope the Supreme Court will reaffirm the judicial consensus of these decisions. In support, the Presidents’ Alliance will move forward to coordinate an amicus brief to provide a vehicle for higher education institutions to weigh in on behalf of DACA recipients and on the vital importance of the continued existence of DACA.

Concurrently, our members and their campuses will work diligently to make sure DACA students, scholars, and staff have the resources and information they need to continue to avail themselves to the protection of DACA. Finally, we will redouble our commitment to collaborate with the Senate and urge, in a bipartisan manner, the passage of permanent, long-lasting protection for these valued immigrant students and alumni.”

The Senate can no longer wait to act. Yesterday, the Presidents’ Alliance sent a letter to the U.S. Senate urging it to move forward on passing legislation that would protect Dreamers, and Temporary Protected Status & Deferred Enforced Departure holders. You can read that letter here
