Washington, D.C.—The Presidents’ Alliance released the following statement in response to the White House’s announcement that the administration is revising the annual refugee admissions cap to 62,500, up from 15,000 under the previous administration:

Miriam Feldblum, Executive Director of the Presidents’ Alliance, stated: “We are tremendously grateful and heartened that the Biden administration has finally kept its promise to raise the refugee admissions cap to 62,500. This increased cap ensures that the United States will once again strive to be a leader in the humanitarian arena, and fulfill our promise and historic commitment to refugees. The refugee program’s contribution to our nation’s higher education is too often understated. Refugees represent students, professors, scholars and staff on our campuses–all of whom are essential for the flourishing of our college and university campuses. Refugees are, and will continue to be, an integral part of our higher education community.”
